The Master Watchmaker
One of my buddies has recently gotten into watchmaking.
No, he doesn’t actually make watches. But he enjoys watching videos about how to make watches. It’s actually quite mesmerizing.
If you’ve never seen a watch being assembled, particularly an expensive one, you might be shocked by how many tiny cogs, gears, and springs go into keeping perfect time on your wrist. In fact, a quick Google search tells me that a single Rolex has over 200 moving parts which are crafted and assembled by hand to create an accessory of extreme aesthetic and mechanical value.
I bet Jesus would have been a master watchmaker. Okay sure, he would have been a master anything. But as a craftsman by trade, his skillful hands and acute attention to detail would have led to some pretty impressive timekeepers. But alas, watches weren’t invented yet.
Instead, he crafted you.
With the delicate precision of a master watchmaker, Jesus created you, piece by piece, out of the infinite reservoirs of his kaleidoscopic imagination. If a watch’s value is defined by its maker, what does that say about you?
Jesus once spoke about birds and flowers, neither of whom know how to care for themselves, yet they’re sustained by the Father. Addressing his followers, he said, “How much more valuable are you than them?” Turns out the answer is: infinitely more valuable. No sparrow, no lily, and no, not even the most exquisitely crafted timepiece can compare to the image of God that’s stamped on your soul.
Next time you look at your wrist to check the time, let it be a holy reminder of the extraordinary value with which you were imbued by the hands of the Master Watchmaker.
